Traditional beech hedging takes a while to establish, but looks superb when mature, with glossy either rich green or deep reddish purple leaves, depending on your preference. Purple is a bit slower and consequently more expensive. Both forms when trimmed hold onto their leaves in winter, which turn a rich copper colour and act as a good barrier. Ideal for hedges from 2 to 3m tall. The photographs here are of a local hedge taken in mid August.
