Hosta Avocado is a large variety, a wonderful mildly polyploid sport of Guacamole. As is normal with polyploids this has given it a leaf of thicker substance but narrowed the gold centre. I think it is a substantial improvement on Guacamole, but to be at its best Avocado requires a reasonably bright spot, where it will develop a brighter coloured centre and the large round leaves leaves take on a fairly glossy sheen. It also has possibly the largest flower I have ever seen on a Hosta, bit white scented trumpets. If you have the right spot fir this, I highly recommend it. At the moment (July 2024) all of my Avocado are in a somewhat shady tunnel, so I didn’t have one to photograph displaying its full colour.
